What Expedition Captain Lite does

Route workspace

Work the passage on the chart and in the route table side by side. Waypoints and legs in one view, quick movement along long routes, and inserted waypoints that respect the geometry of the leg.

Chart review

Bearing and distance checks with EBL, VRM and a ruler, and a preview of every turn radius on the route. Review aids stay on the chart; what you export is the waypoint table.

Corridor and turn radius

Set port and starboard cross-track limits and turn radii leg by leg, or apply one value along a whole stretch of the route, from the chart or from the table. The preview is for review; the exported values are the ones you set.

Interoperability

Bring routes in from RTZ (including Sperry profiles), GPX, RT3, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON, NACOS XML and Olex, and hand them off in the format your ECDIS or planner accepts — RTZ for typical ECDIS hand-off.

Expedition Captain Pro

A full passage-planning and navigation workstation for expedition vessels and yachts operating in polar and remote regions. It runs in a standard web browser — standalone on a laptop, or served from the vessel’s own network so the whole bridge team works from one shared plan — and it does not depend on a connection to do its job.

It is built around the way an expedition bridge actually prepares a voyage: the route, the charts and the regional reporting obligations along the way, handled together, from first draft to the plan the master signs. The plan is prepared and held in Expedition Captain Pro — ashore and on board, across a fleet’s vessels and voyages — and handed to the ECDIS for execution.

Expedition Captain Pro is in development, built by a serving master and ice pilot to the standard of the bridge rather than the shore office. Operators who would like to talk early are welcome to get in touch at hello@expeditioncaptain.com.

Remember: Expedition Captain is an operational aid only. The master and bridge team remain responsible for validating routes on the intended equipment and for safe navigation.
